“I won the lottery and lost it all!”

How many times have you heard about people who won the lottery only to lose it all within a few years? You ask yourself how on earth could anyone spend millions in a short amount of time.

Although many of us love the thought of winning the lottery, on a subconscious level we’re not always prepared for actually having millions to spend!

We have a financial thermostat inside us, just like a temperature gauge, which is set to the amount of money which we’re comfortable with – this could be a few thousand, hundreds of thousands or millions.

Once we have money over this threshold, we have to get rid of it to get back to what we’re comfortable with – very similar to the heating being regulated in your home.

To increase your financial thermostat, you need to look at your beliefs around money – what do you think of rich people, are you scared of how family/friends will treat you if you become very rich. Sometimes it’s just a case of reframing your beliefs, e.g. there are many wealthy people who are great philanthropists, you don’t have to hoard it all. You can be a nice person and still be rich, etc.

Write down all your thoughts and beliefs about money – do you like money, do you think rich people are arrogant? Do you deserve to be wealthy? Walk around and get used to the idea of having lots of money in the bank and how that feels. Imagine having enough cash to buy your dream house, car and so on. In time, your financial thermostat will increase and you’ll be confident of going after a higher paid job or winning the lottery and not spending it all quickly!
