Can You Let Go Of Instant Gratification?

Many of us live in a society where instant gratification has become the norm. With online shopping, we can think of something we want in the morning and have it delivered by the evening! As soon as we have one thing, our minds turn to what can we get next. The mind is never really satisfied and always looking for the next thing to make us feel good.

I sometimes wonder if this is why we think we have to achieve all of our goals and dreams right now, because we’re so used to getting things as soon as we want them?

When it comes to striving for what you really want, tell yourself it’s OK to take months or years, especially if it’s something that’s stretching you. We sometimes give up too easily because we’ve got into that mindset that we can get what we want right now. We decide to give it a go and if we see no results soon, we decide it wasn’t meant to be.

Your goals are like a farmer growing his crops – they need time and care. The initial idea is the seed – take the time to nurture it with the resources you need. Create the beliefs and mindset you need to achieve your goal. In effect you’re growing the idea, getting it further to your goal. Once you have the right mindset, the goal will come to fruition.

We’re all different so become comfortable with however long it takes for you to reach your goal. Never judge yourself against someone else. But know that reaching your goal may take some time and that’s OK. With enough patience, persistence and belief in yourself, you will get there.
