2020 will go down as a year of total change! It’s as if the world just suddently stopped and we were forced to be at home for most of the time.
With all the news and stories of fear, many people have spent much of the year worried, stressed and anxious. It’s so easy to get drawn into a circle of negative emotions when that is all you see and hear around you.
The problem is that negative feelings have an impact of our physical body. Levels of adrenaline and cortisol increase which lead to stress and even depression. You may not think your thoughts or emotions have an impact on your health, but they really do. The chemistry of your body changes with your thoughts.
Aim to balance the negative feelings with some positive ones as much as you can. Remember times when you’ve been happy, joyful or just lauging with friends and you know you feel better. In this state, your body produces serotonin, which helps our wellbeing and happiness.
A wonderful easy exercise to be more positive is the “Attitude of Gratitude“. Just think of 3 things everyday for the people and things you are grateful for.
There are so many things to be grateful about – your family, partner, children, the people who support and listen to you, your house, car, job, your health, the sunshine, the flowers blooming, the birds twittering – the list is endless. Most of the time we take all these things for granted but start to dwell on them and you’ll realise and feel how enriched you are.
Start each morning as you brush your teeth or have a shower, or at the end of the day before going to sleep. to go through all the things you’re grateful for.
Even with the uncertainty around you now, you can still help your mind and body by having an attitude of gratitude.
