What do you think/feel about your body? Do you value it enough to give it the right nourishment and exercise? Do you care how healthy you are?
If you have problems losing weight and keeping it off, or don’t like parts of your body, then have a good look at your self-image. Write down what your body means to you:
- Do you like it, any aspect of it?! Or is it a burden you feel you just have to live with?
- Does your body annoy you because it’s never the shape/weight you want it to be?
- You diet but it never seems to get you anywhere, your body refuses to get to that ideal weight?
Sometimes our bodies get punished for all the ills that have been done to us – parents telling us we were no good, being bullied at school, people making fun of us, breaking up with someone. We push down the emotions we feel and hide it under food and weight because it’s easier to hide it than face it.
In the process, we may disconnect from our bodies, blaming them for making life miserable because we don’t look good or can’t wear the right clothes. It may seem like a battle trying to get your body into shape – why won’t it lose those last few pounds!
Instead of battling with your body, reconnect with it and work out the causes for your over-eating or why you don’t like it. Are you punishing it for past events and what were they? Is there a pattern to when you overeat or reach for chocolate. What emotions are being hidden by food and are there other ways to deal with them.
It may seem scary or uncomfortable, but once you go within, you’ll find that your body is not the enemy. Examining your beliefs around your body will give you the keys to understanding how to take care of it.
If any of this resonates with you, then it’s time to change your attitude and beliefs around your body.
