Why New Year Resolutions Don’t Always Work

The New Year is here and I’m sure we’re all hoping it will be much better than last year! There’s something about the New Year, an excitement, as if we have a blank slate or clean sheet to create a new life, achieve our goals and intentions.

That excitement keeps people going for a few weeks but after a while, many people seem to give up, as if they’ve run out of the enthusiasm steam! Why does that happen? The answer could lie in the limiting beliefs deep at the subconscious level which are holding you back.

As the picture shows, your subconscious mind holds your beliefs and values. This is what drives us in life and most of the time we don’t even know what they are or that they even exist!

For example, maybe you were told at some point that you’d never amount to much and wonder why your career or business is going nowhere. Maybe you’re trying to lose weight and a long time ago someone hurt you (mentally or physically) and you decided weight was a good way to protect yourself. The beliefs your parents have about money, work, health and so on are all there. There are so many ways limiting beliefs become embedded in our subconscious.

So how do we access such beliefs? Hypnosis is one way since it allows you to directly access your subconscious to add new empowering beliefs and remove limiting ones.

A meditative way, is to find a time where you can be quiet and go within. Sit or lie comfortably, focus on your breathing for a minute or two and let go of all distracting thoughts. Ask your subconscious what problems/beliefs are stopping you from being successful in your goals and see/feel what images, thoughts, emotions appear.

Work through these to become free of whatever is holding you back. Give the intent to let the answers come to you even if they may be painful or fearful, As Susan Jeffers says in her book “Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway”. sometimes the thought of facing the fear is actually worse than doing it!

If you’re passionate about being a certain way or achieving a goal, stick with it. Work on releasing the limiting beliefs and behaviours at the subconscious level. It may take time but then you’ll be ready to create the beliefs and take the actions to achive your dreams and isn’t that worth it, however long it takes?
