The Importance of Having an Olympian Mindset

The Toyko Olympics are just finishing. It’s been inspiring seeing the skills the athletes have for their various sports. One thing they have in common is a dedication to improving and maintaining their level of excellence.

They now have another 3 years to get to a level where they can either retain or achieve a gold medal in their sport. For most of us who are focusing on our goals, we usually want them to be completed now and the idea of waiting years seems far too much! And yet for these people, training constantly, fitting it into their lives and giving up aspects of their lives for years is something they are motivated and willing to do.

So ask yourself how committed are you to your ambitions? Are they something you’ll give up if they don’t happen soon? Are you ready to give your time and energy into achieving your goal or hoping that by putting in some effort, it will magically happen?

These Olympians show us that total dedication, a strong desire to win a medal and a belief in themselves is required and they do that day after day for years on end. They overcome injuries and setbacks such is their commitment to be the best. Can we say the same about the goals we wish to achieve? Do you allow setbacks to stop you pursuing your goals?

If a dream is close to your heart then focus and work towards it however long it takes. If you really want something, make a commitment that you’ll achieve your aim however long it takes.

Take a leaf out of an Olympian’s mindset – they’re focusing on the games in 2024. So give yourself the time to do what it takes to achieve your goals. If it takes a while, so what, congratulate yourself for having the energy and determination to achieve them.
