People speak of enlightenment when they think about their spiritual journey. What exactly does that mean? Does it mean that you suddenly become one with everything, know everything and disappear into light?!
I think a phrase which sums it up well is the Zen quote below:

I’ve found in my journey that my beliefs and outlook have greatly changed. I know I’m connected to everything and that my higher self, my angels are always with me. To me, that phrase means that you continue doing the same things as before but consciously you are a different person.
It’s about becoming so conscious and enmeshed with Spirit that you can feel that presence all the time whatever you’re doing, however trivial – cleaning, washing-up, tidying. So you do the same tasks, but you feel your spiritual self as you do them.
This does take practice and there may be a fleeting moment when you feel it and then it goes. But the more you do this, the longer those moments remain.
We are born with that connection to the Universe but many of us forget and lose it as we grow up. Our parents, family, society teaches us that it doesn’t exist, that it can’t be proved and so we let it go.
The spiritual journey involves remembering and getting back that connection. Open up your heart and mind to knowing this and doing what feels best to deepen it.
Enlightenment is a journey. But along the way you have many insights and wonderful experiences. Being conscious of that connection enriches your life as you now feel supported and loved at all times.
