Get Creative

Sometimes as adults we get so caught up in our responsibilities and working that finding time to “play” and be creative can be seen as frivolous. You may feel guilty about doing something fun such as drawing or playing a musical instrument – surely you should be doing something more worthwhile?!

But that creative aspect of us is just as important as the responsible, adult part which does the logical thinking.

Remember when as a child you had the time to use your imagination to paint, write poems or stories, draw, make things, sing, etc. All these wonderful right brain activities can be forgotten about as we become older.

The thing is, when we do these as adults, it allows us to relax, to release our stress and anxiety as we let our imagination take over. Colouring books are popular now with adults – there’s something relaxing about doing something as simple as choosing different colours to fill in a picture.

Creative activities disengage the part of the brain which is always analysing. Instead we can just be, and in that moment our mind and brain relax. We can use it to express ourselves and how we feel about our life.

Give yourself permission to let that creative part of you come out and play again. Our health and wellbeing spring from seeing ourselves holistically. That mean expressing all of our aspects, including our wonderful imagination.
