Many of us suffer from procrastination – putting off tasks until a better time, which sometimes may never come! With our busy lives, how do you find the time to fit in everything you need to do?
One way is to make a list and prioritize the order of importance. If you have a work deadline in a couple of days, that could take precedence over something you need to finish by the following week.
But what about those jobs that just feel like a chore? The ones which are hard to find the enthusiasm or energy to even start? One way to overcome this is to create a reward system for yourself. Make it fun and playful, for example, give yourself a gold star or whatever feels good for you, every time you finish a task. Give yourself 2 stars for a big assignment.
Treat yourself as the rewards build up –5 stars and you can spend time relaxing doing what you want, 10 stars lets you buy something special. Yes, it may be how children are motivated to do things but why should that stop once we’re adults? 🙂 We’re all different so make it fun and reward yourself for completing your tasks, especially the dull ones!
Sometimes it’s difficult to get everything done and many times we don’t appreciate ourselves. We think of what we need to do and don’t take time to “pat ourselves on the back’” for what we’ve achieved. So start to make procrastination a thing of the past and treat yourself frequently for being a success!
