It’s in our nature to want everything now – the new job, house, car, etc. We decide to lose weight and want to do it in a couple of weeks. Sometimes it’s better to look at the long-term game.
In his excellent book, “The Compound Effect” by Darren Hardy, he tells of a lady who made the commitment to lose weight over months. She initially walked for a mile around her house 3 times over 2 weeks. She then did this 3 times a week for another 2 weeks. After a few weeks, she was encouraged to start a slow jog but only as far as felt comfortable, and then walk. After 7 weeks she was jogging a mile. After nine months she was running a half marathon!
In a few months, even years, you can drastically change your whole eating and exercise lifestyle – it just takes commitment from you to say you’ll do it over time at a pace comfortable for you.
OK, so the thought of losing weight over months may not be great, but in this way you instill great habits which will serve you for life.
Wouldn’t you rather be slim for years rather than just for that holiday and then put the weight back on only to diet again? Give yourself the luxury of creating a healthy lifestyle over time and reap the benefits of being slim and healthy forever.
